Savitri works as a housemaid in the Trans-Yamuna area. Her alcoholic husband works part-time jobs pulling rickshaws in Chandni Chowk and driving three-wheelers, both of which have to be rented. The family migrated from Andhra Pradesh (southern India) six years ago. Savitri works in five houses, leaving at 6:30 in the morning and returning home by late afternoon. Her children are left with an old woman in exchange for a nominal monthly barter. The eldest son (9 years old) goes to a school run by a local NGO, the other two (7 and 5 years old) are not attending school.
