Children at play

These children belong to the families of farmers and herdsmen who migrate to Jodhpur City from the interiors of the Rajasthan desert. Due to drought conditions over the years, water is very scarce and agriculture is nearly impossible. After four or five difficult months, these families return to their places of origin where they till their patches of land and wait for rain. The cattle and goats are left to fend for themselves. Upon return to Jodhpur, the animals that have survived the drought are reclaimed. Everyday in the outskirts of Jodhpur city, men leave for labour chowks, looking for work. On a good day, a man can bring in Rs. 50-60 (approximately $1).
