The Wait

Over 300 people wait everyday at this 'nakka' (labour chowk). Almost all of them are non-mumbaikars (non-mumbaiites) and moved to this city merely to earn a living. They are up for any job, from working as construction labourers to merchandize helpers, electricians or plumbers. Most of them usually wait until noon to be picked up by a contractor and their average earnings are Rs. 150 ($ 3) per day. Some unlucky ones wait out the entire day without receiving an offer to work.
